“The ambivalence between the tension and fragility of the vessels, between the surface texture and form, characterises the work of Rachel Wood. The wonderful surfaces with their subtle structures and colour variances are particularly fascinating. We are very pleased that she is represented in the collection of our museum.”
“Her forms have a comfortable, confident irregularity, not forced out of structured symmetry but alluding to it like a tree or a plant might grow, quite organically. It is these qualities together, this combination of form and colour and texture that places her work, makes it recognisably hers.”
“The outside world seemed very much on the outside whilst my own internal world was growing ever larger. I’d stopped wearing a watch (and haven’t worn one since). My concept of time was marked by coffee time, mealtimes, Robin’s sherry time, Radio 4 hourly beeps, and daylight. Senses were filled by the smell of damp clay, evening cycle rides, country lanes, country veg on curbside stalls, and talk of pumpkin soup.”
