Tactile Techniques - handbuilding with clay, October 18-20

  • 7 West Workshops Harley Foundation Studios, Welbeck Worksop, England, S80 3LW United Kingdom (map)

This 3 day workshop introduces you to the tactile handbuilding techniques of pinching and coiling. We start with exploration of the physical properties of the clay through playful experimentation, helping the student to know and feel the clay's possibilities and limits. Emphasis is very much on process, trial and error, so that by the end of the course, you will learn competent core skills in pinching and coiling, and be more aware of the possibilities of working in this way.

Individual guidance is given throughout. Workshops include frequent demonstrations on technique, form and surface treatment, and an insight into Rachel’s own making and philosophy. You will have a visual feast of her own work on hand to always inspire you.

The workshop takes place in Rachel’s own workshop. A small group setting ensures everyone has sufficient personal tuition and working space in a nurturing and relaxed environment. Refreshments are provided throughout the day.
