This new 3 day workshop introduces you to the tactile hand building techniques of pinching and coiling. This extended course allows more time to explore each step of the compact 2 day course. We start with exploration of the physical properties of the clay through playful experimentation, helping the student to know and feel the clay's possibilities and limits. Emphasis is very much on process, trial and error, so that by the end of the course, you will learn competent core skills in pinching and coiling, and be more aware of the possibilities of working in this way.
“What a wonderful couple of days we all had full of clay, inspiration, new knowledge, amid moments and doses of madness and fun. You are indeed a very patient and generous tutor and I can’t thank you enough.”
Each student is treated as an individual so their own needs and ideas come to life and according to their level of experience, whether a beginner, intermediate or advanced. Guidance is given throughout. Workshops include frequent demonstrations on technique, form and surface treatment, and an insight into her own making and philosophy. The personal setting in Rachel's own studio provides a friendly and nurturing environment to enable each student to feel comfortable and get the most from their stay. You will have a visual feast of her own work on hand to always inspire you.
The Harley Foundation studio space holds a maximum of 7 students, thus ensuring everyone has sufficient personal tuition and working space.
